Six members of the ShoeMe.ca family were up early on Friday, February 14 to help spread some shoe love at Union Gospel Mission (UGM) in Vancouver's downtown Eastside for Valentine's Day. Often referred to as Canada’s poorest large urban postal code, UGM works around the clock to help feed and care for those in need in this area. With assistance from UGM staff, we distributed brand new pairs of shoes and socks to 125 people, both at the UGM cafeteria and on foot.
Here are a few photos from that morning:
Getting ready to unload 125 pairs of new shoes and socks.
Sorting shoe packages by size for quick distribution.
Ready to go in the Union Gospel Mission cafeteria by 9 am.
ShoeMe.ca's founder and President, Sean Clark.
Eva, Leah and Chelsea took the lead on taking tickets and handing out shoes along with helpers from the UGM.
Towards the end of the shoe giveaway, we toured the UGM facilities to learn more about the many rehabilitation and recovery programs they run annually.
The morning ended with giving the remaining shoes to those in need on foot.
