As summer rolls around, we’re noticing a couple of things: one, people are wearing sandals again; and two, some of those sandals don’t smell as good as they once used to.
After hiking through muddy trails, wading through varying shades of standing water, or acting as a replacement chew toy for your buddy’s dog, it’s hard to blame the smell on the sandals. As noted on the Teva website, four incredibly simple steps will help your Teva sandals stay fresh and last MUCH longer.
1. Bathe. Simply dunking your sandals in soapy warm water once a month will significantly extend the life of your sandals. This small change can make the difference between throwing your sandals away after a couple of seasons or having them outlast you.
2. Scrub. No machines required: all you need is a soft-bristled brush. Rinse and repeat as needed to get the dirt and grit out of the sandal sole.
3. Air-dry. Teva treats some of their sandals with a ‘secret sauce’ formulated to prevent bacterial growth. This formula works best when your sandals are exposed to 15 minutes of sunlight (but not longer). So every time you wash them, briefly let them hang out in a sunny patch to dry.
4. Repeat. Once about every two to four weeks is recommended.
