THE CITY SERIES TORONTO: TAYLOR KLICK

WE’RE AT THE TOP OF THE THOMPSON HOTEL, WITH AN AMAZING VIEW! IS THIS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITE SPOTS IN THE CITY?

This is definitely one of my favourite views in the city, especially in the summer from the infinity pool.

WE'RE SHOOTING THE HARDY BOOTS TODAY. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THESE BOOTS IN PARTICULAR?

The Hardy boots are incredible for Toronto weather during the milder seasons leading up to winter. It's hard to find fashionable boots with a good tread and thermal lining. These are a must-have on my list.

THEN THERE’S THE KAT MACONIES. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?

Just look at them! Need I say any more? As a designer, I view the simple detail of the gold heel as a piece of art. You can tell Kat Maconie is thoughtful in her designs and craftsmanship. This heel is perfect for everything from business meetings, to motivational speaking engagements.

WHAT ARE THREE STAPLES EVERY TORONTO BUSINESS WOMAN SHOULD OWN?

Bravery, intuition and the will to learn everyday. When you carry those around with you, the potential is endless. The legacy you leave behind will last longer then any object.

WHERE’S THE BEST PLACE TO SHOP IN TORONTO?

Queen West has an amazing selection of small boutiques. As a small business owner, it's important to me to support others who are growing their dreams with their careers. Shopping small boutiques normally has an added bonus of originality and quality.

BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR, WHAT’S YOUR MOST VALUABLE LIFE MANTRA?

No regrets. In my mind, there is no such thing as a mistake. Every choice you make is a part of your journey. Learn from the things that don't go as planned because they make you who you are.

YOU FOUNDED IVVI: BIT.LY/IVVIAPP! HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR WORKLOAD?

As a solo founder, you tend to wear 12 hats when running your company. Taking on 12 roles it is not easy to have balance. In order to ensure balance, I schedule my personal life in my calendar alongside my business roles. Going to yoga, taking time for my friends and going to networking events are always mandatory in my week. Years ago, I learned that if you don’t watch TV, and you spend that time working on your passions, you will be light years ahead.

TELL US ABOUT IVVI - HOW DID IT COME ABOUT?

Video is the main source of my digital news, comedy and inspiration. As an avid video connoisseur and motion graphics designer, I was looking for an app that could keep me updated with the most important videos. After 2 years of waiting for one to come out, I decided that I would build it with my development team. It started as a passion project and rapidly grew into a business as I learned that most tastemakers had a hard time trying to find the most important videos to watch and share. After all, there are billions of videos viewed everyday and we needed a tool to know what’s worth your time in inspirations, humour and education.

WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING THING THAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR IN YOUR CAREER AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?

I always get ecstatic when I get asked to inspire the next generation, and other entrepreneurs. Speaking in front of hundreds to motivate them to live a fuller life and to follow their purpose could not be more rewarding. The best is when I get feedback telling me that I have motivated them by sharing my story. There’s nothing like getting noticed for building your dream and influencing others to do the same. If we all lived our purpose and supported others, think of how phenomenal our world would be.

HOW HAVE YOU OVERCOME THE ‘START-UP’ ROAD BUMPS?

As an entrepreneur, every single day there are ‘start-up road bumps’. Google has become my best friend for anything I don’t have an answer to. Surrounding yourself with a strong support mentor and network group will always help with any problems that you have trouble solving.

WHAT IS THE LANDSCAPE LIKE FOR FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS IN TORONTO?

I am normally one of five women tech founders in the room, if that. There are not enough women starting their own businesses, especially in tech. It has been my goal to mentor and teach more women in the tech industry. More women need to embrace that being nerdy is charming.

“Entrepreneurship is much like jumping off a cliff and building your wings after your jump."

WHEN YOU AREN'T KICKING ASS AS A BUSINESS OWNER, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO GET UP TO?

When I am not exploring in my career, I am exploring in global travels. As an adventure seeker, travelling the world is one of my favourite things to do. Whether it’s scuba diving in Thailand, rock climbing in Vietnam, Zip lining in Laos, Galloping on horses in Aruba, Island hopping in the Caribbean, doing yoga in Guatemala or photographing Monet’s lily pond in Giverny, I’m up for the voyage.

ANY TIPS/ADVICE YOU’D GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING THEIR OWN BUSINESS?

There is never a perfect time to start so just do it. Take the leap and don’t look back. Entrepreneurship is much like jumping off the cliff and building your wings after your jump. Learn everyday, be courageous, step outside your bubble, meet interesting people and most importantly, have fun. When you learn how to fly, it will be unlike anything you have experienced before. You're flying because you made that first step. This is an unbelievable feeling that most people never get the opportunity to experience.

WHAT WAS THE CITY SERIES EXPERIENCE LIKE FOR YOU?

I am humbled to be among so many incredible influencers in TO. Photoshoots and campaigns like this have always allowed me to get creative, either behind or in front of the camera. As a photographer, I know it is important for the subject to be involved in the vision. The City Series has been an incredible experience to work with some of the most amazing and talented people!

THE GREAT DEBATE IS HAPPENING NOW, WHAT’S YOUR VOTE FOR CALLING TORONTO TDOT OR THE6?

I enjoy switching it up depending on who I’m talking too. If I am outside of the city, I proudly say I’m from Toronto. To acquaintances, I call it TO and with best friends, we reference The6.

WHAT’S YOUR  NEXT SHOE PURCHASE ON SHOEME.CA?

I have my eyes on a few strappy sandals for my next travel adventure.
