WE’VE MET YOU ON A RAINY AFTERNOON AT THIS COOL COFFEE SPOT, TOKYO SMOKE – IS THIS YOUR FAVOURITE COFFEE SPOT?
Definitely is. The owner Alan Gertner is a good friend of mine and I really believe he’s on to something with his unique take on the traditional coffee shop. From the menu, to the design, to the experiential nature of the space, Tokyo Smoke is redefining coffee consumption. I’m also glad that globetrotters like him are choosing to come home to Toronto and set up their businesses in Canada. I think young entrepreneurs are the future of this great country so I’m happy to support and encourage them as much as I can.
YOU JUGGLE SUCH A VARIETY OF INTERESTS: FROM YOUR HUNTER & CRAFT PODCASTS, TO YOUR BIZ DEV AT DELL, TO MANAGING A PRIVATE INVESTMENT FUND AND DJ’ING. HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIME?
I think the key for me is waking up excited to start each and every day. Instead of thinking in terms of “growth hacking” or “life hacking” or “optimization” and a lot of that time management wizardry, I’ve realized that the key to doing a variety of things successfully is a function of being able to clearly define what you want.
TELL US ABOUT HUNTER & CRAFT, HOW THE PODCAST GO STARTED AND WHERE YOU WANT IT TO GO.
Hunter & Craft is a project I started less than a year ago with two good friends of mine. Basically we got together and wanted to create some kind of community focused around our love for innovation, entrepreneurship and personal growth. What we came up with was Hunter & Craft: an online community and weekly podcast which provides lessons and insights from today’s innovators, entrepreneurs and creative minds. The goal here with the podcast is to offer insights to people interested in personal growth and also to build a unique community of like-minded individuals.

YOU PICKED THE RED WING HERITAGE IRON RANGER BOOTS, TELL US ABOUT HOW THEY WORK WITH YOUR STYLE?
I hadn’t seen these boots before I was introduced to SHOEme.ca and I’ve got to say that based on the compliments I’ve received since putting them on I’m glad I did. I can wear them with anything, they’re super comfortable and seem like they’re tough enough to stay on my feet 'til I’m about 80.
TELL US ABOUT THE PEOPLE FOOTWEAR SNEAKERS.
As a value seeker in the financial markets I tend to look for value in all areas of my life. What things are trading at a discount to their intrinsic vale? I think these People sneakers are one such thing. They are stylish, well made, versatile and really reasonably priced.
THE GREAT DEBATE IS HAPPENING NOW, WHAT'S YOUR VOTE FOR CALLING TORONTO TDOT OR THE6?
I’m not a big fan of labelling. Although I think Drake’s popularity is great for the city, I’ll remain stubbornly old fashion and refer to my city as Toronto.
Keep up with Matt
